Gutter Cleaning

Installing rain gutters not only protects your home’s landscaping and siding, gutters also prevent damage to your home’s foundation. When gutters fill with leaves, sticks and other debris, this can cause clogs and result in water creeping under the roof and sometimes, into the foundation. Clogged gutters can also lead to ice dams in the winter. That’s why it’s important to be cleaning out your gutters, especially in the fall.

You should clean your gutters at a minimum of once a year. You should do it more often if you have overhanging trees and after a big storm.

How we Clean Your Gutters

• We come with a good, sturdy, extendable ladder. Always place the ladder on a sturdy surface (beware of landscaping rocks below which can shift). We come as a team in case something drops or need a hand with the ladder.
•  Dress for the job. By wearing a long-sleeved shirt, work pants and rubber gloves. Cleaning gutters is a dirty job.
•  To remove the gunk from the gutters, we use a small, plastic scoop. Gutter scoops, or a child’s sandbox shovel also works just fine.
•  Spread a tarp underneath your workspace to collect all the gutter gunk and protect your lawn and landscaping.
•  Once we’ve removed the debris from the gutters, we use a garden hose to flush the gutters and downspouts and clear out any remaining debris. This will also show you if you have any leaks.
• Clear the Drains; When cleaning gutters, many people forget to clean their drains at the same time. While debris and blockages can be easily spotted in your gutters, drains tend to be more of a challenge, To begin with, clear the drain cover from any debris and then remove the grill. Using a hand trowel, dig out any soil, leaves and litter that is in there and then pour in a good-quality drain cleaner. If your drains are blocked, then there are pressure washer attachments that can be fed into the drain to blast the blockage away.
•  Once the gutters are clear, we repair any sagging metal.
